Jenny Jump in December

Hiked:

Super warm and foggy December hike at Jenny Jump.

Our last hike to Ghost Lake was over four years ago (“Jenny Jump in Spring”).

Keeping a trail blog is awesome except that it underscores the passage of time – I would have sworn it wasn’t that long ago. People have entered and graduated high school or college in that time span. Yikes.

The last few times we hiked here was in spring and we were nearly carted off by bugs, so we opted to try in winter. Or so we thought.

Detailed hike info can be found on our main Best Hikes in NJ: Jenny Jump page.

70 degrees in December. Seventy. We hiked in short sleeves and shorts! SHORTS!

Trees silhouetted against foggy hills.

The only issue with all this unseasonably warm weather lately is that every overlook has been a wall of fog.

Cool looking, sure, but maybe this hike wasn’t an ideal choice since it has so many excellent viewpoints. At least the bugs weren’t around.

Squint and you can spot the Delaware Water Gap off in the hazy distance.

Remains of the cabin that once stood at this viewpoint. Somewhere around here I have pics of the cabin still standing.

Miles: 5.8

Route: YELLOW (Summit) to TURQUOISE (Ghost Lake) and back.

Bonus: It was so warm that our after-hike “reward” was iced chestnut praline lattes – yes, iced coffee in December.

Plus it was the last day of Starbuck’s “12 Days of XMAS” promo so we had to score some extra stars…
