Easy 3.2 mile hike using the Beech Glenn, Cross Country, and Ridge Walk trails.
It had been ages since we stopped by Holmdel Park – so long ago that it pre-dates us keeping track in our trail blog.
We hadn’t gone in a long time because this is small park with short trails, where people go for a jog or a stroll. It really falls into the “light hiking” camp.
But I had it on my list to revisit as a option for when we need quick hike under an hour away. That was the case this past weekend so we decided to give it another whirl.
Miles: 3.2
For detailed hike guide visit our main “Holmdel Park – North Section” page.
The hiking is pleasant enough, and varies between packed dirt trail with some roots to a gravel path. Most of it is wooded, but it does skirt the park road, another parking lot, and an open field.
Some paths are gravel
It is a good place for novice hikers or kids, plus there are several playgrounds and Longstreet Farms to keep everyone entertained.
For an avid hiker, this is OK for a quick hike or somewhere to go in winter. By stringing trails together, I was able to eek out a 3.2 mile loop.
Cross Country trail
Field near the Cross Country trail
This could be extended slightly on the Cross Country trail, or combined with the trails in the Ramanessin section across Roberts Rd.
The biggest downside is the lack of trail marking. Monmouth County trails are mapped accordingly to difficultly but the trails themselves aren’t blazed and only some intersections are marked.
It can be hard to match your actual location with the trail map.
However, this is a small park with the park road right in the middle and several parking lots so it’s hard to get too turned around. And it only takes one visit to get the hang of the layout.
