Enjoy plenty of views plus a stop at the Stone Living Room on the way to Osio Rock.
We hadn’t hiked this side of Norvin Green State Forest since 2014. Since then the trail system had changed drastically, reducing our route from 6.4 to under 3 miles.
Normally we’d never drive this far to hike so little but we had limited time this weekend. Not wanting to miss out on any of the just changing fall colors, this short but satisfying hike fit the bill.
This hike squeezes all the ingredients of a great hike into less than 3 miles – rugged, steep, scrambly trails with views that don’t quit – topped off with a break spot that has a 360° panoramic view.
You might be able to spot the NYC skyline if it’s clear enough.

Post hike: Venti iced vanilla lattes. Not sure we hiked hard enough today to earn these but why not.

The views don’t stop.
Views from Osio Rock, with Wanaque Reservoir in the distance:
Hewitt Butler (BLUE) now ends at Torne (RED) instead of continuing to Lake Larriwien. Torne (RED) was extended from this point.
Torne (RED) is easy most of the way back.
