Norvin Green
Forgot North Jersey had gotten snow several weeks earlier, and it had been too cold to melt.
Trail Blogs are casual posts about a particular hike, sometimes with a seasonal focus. They don’t contain the detailed step-by-step instructions and information that our hike guides feature.
For example – the hike guide for Mt. Tammany has detailed instructions but also links to the multiple Trail Blogs about our various hikes up Mt. Tammany over the years (i.e. “Mt. Tammany and Sunfish Pond in the Fall“).
Forgot North Jersey had gotten snow several weeks earlier, and it had been too cold to melt.
Explored a couple unmarked that were on our trail map and stumbled upon two black bears.
Hiking an out-and-back on the Highlands Trail over the New York border.
Hiking above Monksville Reservoir on Hewitt Butler, Horse Pond, and Burnt Meadow.
Headed up towards the viewpoint and there, smack in the middle of the trail by a nice flat seat sized rock, was a 3 foot long rattlesnake.
From the usual Dunnfield parking lot, took the green to sunfish, then turquoise around north end of the pond, picked up the AT.
Walked up road and picked up trail… criss crossed several I don’t remember. Rerouted because of a bear sighting.
To Lucy’s Overlook, skipped Tripod, hit Whale Head Rock but came back along Tarrytown Reservoir.
Hiking from Perkins Tower down the Major Welch Trail and around Doodletown.
Usual Harriman trail; rocky, many streams, scenic views in spots, overall nice hiking.
Took Otter Hill GREEN to an unmarked WOODS ROAD. A sign for Glenwild Fire road is on the corner across from it.
Basic Harriman trail: rocky, up and downs to keep it challenging, some views with rock outcrops, nice forest, stream crossings
Norvin is a nice challenging park where you can put together a decent length hike.
